The 17 private bungalows line three ridges overlooking the pristine point where the Golfo Dulce meets the Pacific Ocean. Built over 350 feet above sea level, the Osa Peninsula Eco Lodge was designed in harmony with surrounding forest and beaches and was built with locally harvested materials. Much more than a luxurious place to stay, the Osa Peninsula Eco Lodge is a model ecotourism project and featured in the National Geographic Unique Lodge. The lodge has won worldwide awards for social and environmental excellence and is a notable sustainable tourism pioneer. The resort’s landscape is home to monkeys, macaws, pumas, toucans, tree frogs and thousands of other creatures. A trip to the Osa Peninsula Eco Lodge will be your trip for indulging pure nature.
You will fall asleep to the lull of distant waves. Awake to the sunrise and the call of howler monkeys. When you step outside your bungalow, you will find a thermos of fresh roasted Costa Rican coffee waiting for you. As you make your way to the lodge for breakfast, you’re sure to be greeted by a number of wild creatures of the rainforest on the path leading to our restaurant, Brisa Azul.
The bungalows are open-air with screens that allow you to experience the sounds, sights and smells of the rainforest and the ocean. All bungalows have ceiling fans (no air-conditioning) and offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean or Golfo Dulce from your bed or spacious private decks.
Life speaks a simple language at this Osa Peninsula Eco Lodge, offering a rare opportunity to unplug and embrace a different pace while enjoying your rainforest adventure. You may find that your cell phone works at the resort, but we encourage you to lock your devices in the safe for the duration of your say. With that in mind, please note that our bungalows do not include:
Please note: Due to our fragile eco-system, we ask that you use our special Costa Rican biodegradable products provided or bring biodegradable soap, shampoo and conditioner.
In 2003, the lodge became the first hotel in Costa Rica to receive five-leaf status from the Costa Rica Tourism Board’s (ICT) Certification for Sustainable Tourism, an organization that evaluates a property’s sustainability level and awards one to five leaves.
While we are very proud of our award-winning resort, one of the most gratifying parts of our efforts has been the opportunity to share this unique property with our guests. With our guided tours guests can hike up through virgin rainforest to pristine waterfalls, splash back along the Carbonera River, share the cool early morning air with the 319 bird species that inhabit the reserve or surf and kayak among a rainbow of tropical fish.
And all guided tours in the reserve help to support the ongoing maintenance and pay back the land acquisition of the reserve. By choosing to hike and learn about the area with a knowledgeable local guide, guests help support the community economy and play a vital role in helping to preserve a rainforest while enjoying all the area has to offer.
Visitors may also contribute to the sustainable development in the lodge's reforestation program by transplanting a primary seedling to an area of secondary growth. Or you can visit our local school to take a special tour with the children.

At the Osa Peninsula Eco Lodge, we buy local and hire local. We purchase local produce and products to support local producers, commerce, and retail. Whatever we can’t get in the Osa Peninsula is purchased in Costa Rica.
And we hire a local workforce—including top management positions. This is the cornerstone of our commitment to the local community. The lodge's payable salaries are far higher than the national average, and we employ all of our staff year-round, even during low season. We encourage growth for our employees—some members of our staff that started at the lodge's cleaning rooms are now in middle management positions or work as nature guides.
Typically the young men and women that apply for entry level positions at the lodge have very limited formal school education and almost no knowledge of the English language. With on-the-job-training and classroom education, the employees you meet will no doubt impress you with their positive attitudes and eager smiles. A staff that is not only helpful, but also genuine. With a great staff, the lodge has been able to achieve a level of guest service that is unusual for such remote destinations.
Many of our former staff members have gone on to become local entrepreneurs in Puerto Jimenez or have made a successful career in hotel management in other areas of Costa Rica. We support local transportation companies for boat, air and ground transfers and allow local dance groups and artisans to perform and sell their crafts at the lodge. A strong support of the local education system complements those efforts and ensures sustainability for future generations.
