The New Zealand Eco Lodge is in a peaceful rural location, 30 min self-drive from Dunedin City. The city of Dunedin prides itself as a wildlife capital and extends a range of habitats, rock types and land formations. Rugged river gorges rise to alpine altitudes and creamy coastal beaches yield to wave tossed coastlines.
Architecturally designed and built in a modern vernacular using post-and-beam construction with Macrocarpa timber harvested from the property, the New Zealand Eco Lodge depicts a naturally beautiful abode. The stylized interior consists of two structures, one building offers comfortable open plan lounge dining and fully equipped kitchen. The Korimako Room with ensuite, is located behind the kitchen, the largest bed room offering a smaller estuary view. Walk along the outside deck to access the other wing which offers two guest rooms with ensuite (Kahu corner room and Kotare room) and guest laundry.
Relaxation, comfort and enjoyment of the natural landscape are important aspects of your stay at this New Zealand Eco Lodge. Each room has been named after a visiting local bird.
The Kahu is a protected native bird of prey. Often you will see the Kahu gliding over the New Zealand Eco Lodge, hunting prey over the pasture lands and soaring high on the thermals.
The Kahu Room is a corner room with panoramic estuary viewing.
The Kotare is a smaller bird with a strong beak and possessing a brilliant greenish blue colouring. A protected native bird, you will see the Kotare often perched on driftwood or feeding on small crabs by the waters banks around the New Zealand Eco Lodge.
The Kotare Room offers an unrestrained view of Papanui Inlet.
The Korimako is the spirit bird of New Zealand’s indigenous Maori people. Acknowledged as the message carrier to and from the gods, the Korimako is a protected endemic bird, renowned for their absolutely beautiful bell notes and dawn song.
Their Environmental Mission is to provide an opportunity for ocean appreciation, the natural coastal environs and special wildlife inhabitants.
We aim to advocate for clean ecosystems and biodiversity conservation, to be conscious consumers, and to mitigate our carbon footprint.
The lodge was awarded Enviro Silver by the Qualmark Green Award.
