Colorado Vacation Ranch Redefining the Western Experience.

The ideal setting for an all-inclusive luxury mountain holiday, the Colorado Vacation Ranch “Smith Fork Ranch” offers an extraordinary escape from the everyday.

Located on 300 gorgeous acres of Colorado’s Western Slope, the ranch is secluded and intimate, boasting luxurious comfort, attention-to-detail hospitality and five-star farm-to-table cuisine, blended with authentic western experiences and Rocky Mountain outdoor adventures.

Rustic Style Meets Unpretentious Luxury at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

Rustic luxury is how we like to describe our cabins at Smith Fork Ranch. That means historic buildings, lovingly restored with a painstaking eye for detail. It means rooms furnished with carefully chosen American primitive antiques and original art and crafts from the best western and Native American artisans. It means feather beds with fine linens, handmade soaps and organic lotions. It means glorious panoramas of rugged Rocky Mountain ranges viewed from a comfortable, private spot all your own. We think you’re going to love it.

Mountain House at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

Enter through the old timber door with hand-wrought iron hinges… and settle into your home away from home.
With four guest bedrooms and a private suite (each with a private bath), the two-story Mountain House boasts beautiful views, handmade Americana furnishings, an expansive living room with a stone fireplace, a small kitchenette, and a wrap-around porch that invites you to relax and unwind in the fresh mountain air.

Note: The entire house may be reserved with a 10-person occupancy, or individual guest rooms may be booked (double occupancy).

River House at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

The name says it all. Tucked in among the Cottonwoods and Spruce along the bank above the Smith Fork River, this majestic log house has incredible views of the West Elk range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, as well as one of the lower meadow ponds.

Enter through the hand-hewn timber door and relax amidst the Great Room’s Navajo rugs, American primitive antiques, original art and handmade furnishings from Western and Native American artisans. The house’s river rock fireplace will keep you warm and cozy, or you can head to the deck, offering sumptuous sights and a hot tub, listening to the sound of the river as it winds its way through the ranch. The cabin also features an enclosed summer porch with daybed/settee and kitchenette.

Note: River House can be reserved in its entirety. Depending on the make up of the group or family, River House accommodates a minimum of six to a maximum of 10 guests. Ideal for a large family or three couples.

Aspen Cabin at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

This lovely 4-5 persons’ cabin offers views of Saddle Mountain from its private back deck, which overlooks Smith Fork Ranch’s peaceful meadow. Enjoy a striking view of Sleeping Indian Mountain from the front porch. The sunny sitting room’s vaulted log ceiling, antler chandelier and gas/log stove will make you feel right at home, and the slate-tiled bathroom with shower is stocked with homemade soaps, organic lotions and cozy bathrobes. One bedroom has a king-size bed that can be converted to twins. A second bedroom has log bunk beds and a twin bed – great for kids.

Oak Cabin at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

The oldest of three original guest cabins, the sturdy, cedar log Oak Cabin’s interior is finished with rustic board and batten wainscoting. Relax and unwind in the cozy sitting room, featuring a vaulted ceiling, antler chandelier and a gas/log stove. The 4-person cabin has two bedrooms; one with a queen-size bed, the other with a king that can be converted to two twins. The bathroom has a large, slate-tiled shower and is stocked with handmade soaps and organic lotions for your use. An east-facing deck commands magnificent views up the Smith Fork Valley into the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and the front porch faces Sleeping Indian and Little Sand Mountain.

Spruce Cabin at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

With exposed, chinked log walls and an artfully whitewashed vaulted ceiling, the two-person Spruce Cabin is the perfect cabin for your romantic Colorado ranch getaway. The cabin’s spacious sitting room features an antler chandelier, and a gas/log stove. The bedroom offers a queen-sized bed, and a lovely slate-tiled bathroom with shower. The front porch and south-facing deck have expansive views of the surrounding mountains.

Organic Farmstead at the Colorado Vacation Ranch

The cuisine at Smith Fork Ranch tastes fresh for a reason: many of the ingredients have traveled only a few yards from our organic farmstead to your plate.

Our soil provides the perfect use for the organic waste from around our guest ranch: the kitchen scraps, grass and leaf trimmings, hay from the horse barns, and manure rich in nitrogen all let us cultivate dozens of varieties of vegetables and flowers without the use of synthetic fertilizers or chemicals.

Smith Fork Ranch is not just another Colorado ranch. Yes, we have a stable full of beautifully trained horses, miles of trails, and some of the best private fly fishing in the west. But Smith Fork Ranch really is the quintessential western wilderness experience – and we have deep roots in the history of this beautiful land. And are big on conserving and preserving the natural environment

Of course, we’re not the first to see the growing potential here. For centuries, the fertile Smith Fork River valley was once the home of the Ute Indians, who lived in harmony with the land. And in the last quarter of the 19th Century, pioneers and homesteaders from the Midwest settled the area. Close to a century-and-a-half later, many of the original old homesteads are still being farmed and ranched by the same families.

Our passion and mission is to preserve and nurture the authentic western lifestyle and experience, and to share it with our guests at Smith Fork Ranch here in our magnificent corner of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

In this fast-paced world, there’s nothing quite so satisfying – or fun – as harvesting your own fruits and vegetables. Join our gardener and kitchen staff at the organic farmstead for an educational and enjoyable activity suitable for all ages. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty – your next Smith Fork Ranch meal will taste all the better knowing exactly where it came from.

Long before the start of Smith Fork Ranch, the West Elk range of the Rocky Mountains and this beautiful river valley was the home of Colorado’s oldest residents: the Ute Indians, a tribe of native people who lived and hunted here for hundreds – perhaps thousands – of years. Skilled horsemen, the Utes traveled long distances tracking buffalo, elk, deer, antelope, and mountain sheep for food, clothing and shelter. Smith Fork Ranch’s authentic tipi is a tribute to those who came before us.

Western Colorado was opened for settlement in the 1800s, and cattlemen and farmers quickly staked claims on the fertile land. Soon, the cattle ranches, farms and fruit orchards that still sustain the community were born. “Crawford Country,” as the area is called, has managed to keep its Old West character and out-of-the-way charm for over 150 years.

Our passion and mission is to preserve and nurture the authentic western lifestyle and experience, and to share it with our guests at Smith Fork Ranch here in our magnificent corner of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
