Our British Columbia Wilderness Resort is located in the Great Bear Rainforest with beautifully designed lodge accommodations. It is family owned and operated and have nine spacious-yet-cozy cabins: six intertidal and three streamside, all with breathtaking views of the surrounding bay. All nine of our solid wood cabins were carefully constructed with the surrounding environment and the comfort of our guests in mind.
At our British Columbia Wilderness Resort, outdoor and wild adventure focuses on the nature activity types in and around the resort. Here, you can enjoy excursions such as kayaking, paddle boarding, Great Bear Rainforest hiking, whale watching, bear watching, marine life tours from our boat The Dance, and helicopter excursions. Fraser Murray is chief operator at our British Columbia Wilderness Resort and grew up at the resort and Fraser along with our experienced staff will create an adventure package that fits the unique desires of each group.
The helicopter adventures explore 50,000 square miles of extraordinary wilderness with own helicopter. Our pilots and guides will take you to 10,000 year old glaciers, mountain tops, old growth forests, white sand beaches, waterfalls, pristine lakes, remote islands, isolated rivers, and cultural museums. At each location you may find yourself heli-hiking, swimming, rafting, drifting, fishing, learning, playing, taking photos, or wildlife viewing. This adventure is tailored to the specific desires of each group, and the possibilities are truly endless.
Heli-fly fishing, your guide is well versed in fly fishing and will take you to isolated streams filled with wild Pacific Salmon (Coho, Pinks, Chinook), Steelhead, Dolly Varden Char and Trout (Rainbow, and Cutthroat). Your helicopter stays with you all day and provides access to 50,000 square miles of terrain, including over 50 isolated rivers and streams.
Our guiding staff are exceptional hosts and carry a wealth of information about our area and the wildlife we are so fortunate to live amongst. The adventures are for anyone who would like to enjoy the magic of our British Columbia Wilderness Resort and all of its spectacular amenities whether it be adventuring along the British Columbia’s coast or relaxing in the comforts of your personal intertidal chalet.
At our British Columbia Wilderness Resort, food is a big part of the adventures we offer. Being able to nourish our guests with fresh, local, coastal, homemade fare, while spoiling them with the best in British Columbia wines and beers, is truly as much a treat for us as it is for our guests.
Sustainable tourism is our future and Nimmo Bay is proud to be a member of the first sustainable tourism collective in Canada. This collection of resorts, adventures, and hotel properties focuses on developing the best sustainable environmental practices for improved tourism business growth in British Columbia.
LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: At Nimmo Bay, our guest accommodations, operational quarters, and staff buildings are built on the water at the edge of the forest, on a rocky promontory. Our presence has not impacted the surrounding forest or disturbed any of the wildlife habitat because we have maintained an eco-friendly approach from the beginning. Our guests are happy to see we operate in sync with the natural environment.
CLIMATE FRIENDLY: We accept the necessity of becoming Climate Friendly, and we achieve this through Carbon Responsible actions for ourselves and our guests.
In our quest to become Climate Friendly, we have:
FUTURES FOREVER FUND
Our "Futures Forever Fund" is designed for our guests to give back. This initiative, started in 2007, uses guest environmental donations to fund three important environmental initiatives:
1. Offset greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) emanating from the Nimmo Bay Experience (including air travel from Vancouver to Port Hardy);
2. Save our BC wild salmon from sea lice and chemicals caused by the current fish farming practices. Contributions support the efforts of the Raincoast Research Society and Alexandra Morton;
3. Maintain advocacy work of our BC Wilderness Tourism Association to better represent the members of our Industry. After all is said and done, our economy is a wholly owned subsidiary of our environment.
At our British Columbia Wilderness Resort (Nimmo Bay), We hire locally, buy locally, and provide local artists with a venue where global tourists can view their work. We prefer indigenous organic foods, and our seafood comes from local commercial fisherman only. Environmentally sound cleaning products are used for all cleaning, and special soaps and shampoos are provided for our guests.
